Ahead of Earth Day on Monday, April 22, Mayor Yemi Mobolade today highlighted the City’s Keep it Clean COS program. This initiative began in 2022 and is aimed at enhancing the cleanliness and beauty of Colorado Springs.
Since launching Keep it Clean COS, the City has collected and disposed of more than 100 tons of trash, demonstrating the commitment of City officials to keeping our streets and public spaces clean and litter-free. Additionally, the investment and deployment of new street sweepers in 2023 has resulted in the cleaning of more than 28,000 lane miles.
To communicate these Keep it Clean efforts to the public, the City today launched a StoryMap that provides data and visualizations. It can be found at ColoradoSprings.gov/KeepItClean. The StoryMap also highlights the significant role of community members in keeping Colorado Springs clean.
On Friday, Mayor Yemi presented the Spirit of the Springs 2024 Keep it Clean COS award to ASEZ WAO, an international young adult volunteer group. ASEZ WAO began working with the City’s Stormwater Enterprise in the spring of 2022. Since that time, the group has significantly contributed to the improvement of local waterways and public spaces by participating in a number of cleanups and community outreach efforts. The Keep it Clean COS award was established in 2022 to recognize individuals and groups that go above and beyond in their volunteer efforts to help keep the community clean. The inaugural Keep it Clean COS winner under Mayor John Suthers was COS I Love You.
Residents can support the Keep It Clean COS initiative by disposing of trash properly, participating in community clean-up efforts, and maintaining a clean and litter-free environment in their neighborhoods.
