COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – The public is invited to participate in an in-person public information open house, Thursday, July 22 to learn about reconstruction of South Academy Boulevard between Bijou Street and Airport Road scheduled to begin later this year.

Attendees may learn about the project, anticipated construction impacts, view the design recommendations, and submit comments and questions. The display boards will be available for viewing at the library beginning July 20.

The City of Colorado Springs will reconstruct South Academy Boulevard to address aging pavement, curb and gutter, and improve drainage conveyance along the project corridor. The vision for this corridor is guided by past studies that helped define the need for infrastructure improvements that will also promote community revitalization.

The project to reconstruct South Academy Boulevard from Bijou Street to Airport Road is anticipated to start in late 2021.  The second phase of reconstruction between East Fountain Boulevard and Jet Wing Drive is anticipated to begin in summer 2022.

This is a voter-approved, Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority (PPRTA) A-listed project. Estimated cost to repair existing asphalt (5 lane miles), concrete and storm sewers: $9.5 million.
