On February 11, 2023, the Colorado Springs Police Department Major Crash Team investigated a fatal traffic crash involving a motor vehicle and a motorcycle near N Circle Drive and Prairie Drive in Colorado Springs. On February 13, 2023, the El Paso County Coroner’s office conducted an autopsy of the deceased person from the crash. That person has been identified as 53-year-old Gregory Valdez, a resident of Colorado Springs. This is the 6th fatal traffic crash of 2023. At this same time last year, Colorado Springs had two fatal traffic crashes in Colorado Springs. In the past 365 days, there have been 59 fatal traffic crashes in Colorado Springs. Speed is being investigated as a possible factor in this investigation. At this time in the investigation, there have not been any arrests made.

On 02/11/2023 Officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department, Stetson Hills Division, were dispatched to the intersection of N Circle Dr. and Paseo Rd regarding a traffic crash. Upon arrival officers discovered a vehicle was turning left from Prairie Rd. to travel north on Circle Dr. A motorcycle was traveling south on Circle Dr. approaching Prairie Dr. When the vehicle started to turn the motorcycle struck the vehicle and ejected the motorcycle rider. When medical arrived, it was determined the motorcycle rider was deceased on scene. Due to the nature of the crash the Major Crash Team was notified and responded to assume the investigation. It is too earl-y in the investigation to determine if speed was a factor.
