It’s a symbol of progress and a piece of art. The iconic Park Union Bridge is longer than a football field and provides a major connection to downtown Colorado Springs. You may have seen the construction taking place over the past year, but now, the much anticipated bridge it is open to the public.
Pedestrian and cyclists crossing this unique feat of engineering will be treated to amazing views of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Museum, downtown Colorado Springs, Pikes Peak, and America the Beautiful Park.
Located next to the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Museum, the bridge takes its inspiration from the gravity-defying motion of athletes. It is a 250-foot curved steel structure that floats above the rail yard below. Two interlocked loops, stretching from either side, connect the museum and America the Beautiful Park.
It can be accessed by stairs or a glass elevator. It connects a growing network of pedestrian and bicycle paths including the Midland Trail and Pikes Peak Greenway running alongside Monument Creek.
This bridge is one of two public infrastructure projects key to the redevelopment of southwest downtown. The Park Union Bridge and the newly redesigned Vermijo “signature street” connects the new to the old as you traverse this wide, pedestrian and business-friendly street that connects a new park, America the Beautiful, to one of our city’s oldest parks, Alamo.
