CSPD Cold Case: Nathaniel Abrams

On January 2nd, 1956, CSPD Officers responded to reports of a deceased male in an alley in front of 25 South Barnes Place. Arriving officers discovered 25-year-old Nathaniel Abrams lying face down in a pool of blood. Witnesses say they saw Mr. Abrams and another gentleman, whom he introduced as his friend or uncle from Chicago, at the Young Man's Social. Shortly after leaving the club, Mr. Abrams was shot. Several witnesses described the man accompanying Mr. Abrams, but he was never found. An autopsy revealed Mr. Abrams' manner of death to be a homicide resulting from multiple gunshots.

CSPD Cold Case: Nicholas Guevara & Ruth Jones

At approximately 1:08 PM on January 6, 1983, CSPD was notified of a deceased body found in a dumpster in the 3900 block of Harmony Drive. When officers arrived they found the body of Nicholas Guevara Jr. About three hours later, CSPD received a call for another deceased body at the Meadows Mobile Home Park on Astrozon Boulevard. When officers arrived they found the deceased body of Ruth Jones located inside Mr. Guevara's vehicle. An autopsy revealed that Mr. Guevara died of a gunshot wound and blunt force trauma. Ms. Jones also died of a gunshot wound.

CSPD Cold Case: Mckinley Collins

On January 12, 1973, CSPD Officers found the deceased body of Mckinley Collins in his residence at 230 East Fountain Boulevard. An autopsy determined that Mr. Collins died of a gunshot wound. Despite several witnesses and possible suspect interviews, this case still remains unsolved.

CSPD Cold Case: DeQuincy King

On January 24, 2004, CSPD Officers were dispatched to Memorial Hospital to investigate a shooting victim who had been dropped off at the emergency entrance. The investigation revealed that 19-year-old DeQuincy King had been resting in his car which was parked in the parking lot of Papasan's Sports Bar located at 315 East Arvada Street. When family members checked on Mr. King, he was bleeding. He was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. It was determined that Mr. King died of a gunshot wound.

CSPD Missing Persons: Darlene Wallace

On January 24, 2005, 35-year-old Darlene Wallace was reported missing by a family member who stated that Ms. Wallace left with her boyfriend and never cam home. Ms. Wallace was last seen on January 17, 2005, at approximately 12:00 PM in the vicinity of the 2000 Block of South Corona in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was last seen wearing a blue and pink coat, a black short skirt or jeans, a tank top, high-heeled sandals, and earrings. She may have been wearing a watch and a necklace. Ms. Wallace is described as a white female, approximately 5'5" and 135 lbs. with blonde hair, blue eyes, and a mole on the rear of her left leg.

CSPD Cold Case: David Rector

On January 28, 1991, CSPD Officers were dispatched to an apartment complex on University Drive. When they arrived, officers contacted a resident who informed them that he had not seen his neighbor in several days. Concerned about his welfare, officers entered the apartment and found the deceased body of 37-year-old David Rector. Mr. Rector had been fatally stabbed. Despite several interviews, no arrests have been made.

CSPD Missing Persons: Dolores Raygoza

On April 25, 2017, 46-year-old Dolores Raygoza was reported missing by a family member. Ms. Raygoza was last seen in Colorado Springs, CO on February 3, 2017. Ms. Raygoza is described as a Hispanic female, approximately 4'8" tall, 80 lbs., with brown hair and dark brown eyes. Ms. Raygoza has a mole on her bottom lip. She also has a tattoo of a cherry on her chest, a tattoo of a butterfly on her right arm, and a tattoo of her children's names on her left calf. She was last seen wearing black pants, a black jacket, and tennis shoes. Despite the passing of time, CSPD Cold Case detectives are still actively working to find answers.

CSPD Cold Case: Maria Honzell

On February 7, 1977, CSPD Officers responded to a report that a mother found her babysitter 14-year-old Maria Honzell, dead with stab wounds inside her apartment on North Nevada Avenue. The woman said when she arrived home at 11:15 PM, she found Maria on the floor of the master bedroom. The caller's children were physically unharmed, and her young son told police he had gone to bed around 8 PM but something awoke him that caused him to go into the hallway. He observed a male holding the victim's mouth. He said the male and Maria then went into his mother's bedroom. He described the male as white, about 17 years old, six feet tall, with acne, and wearing a "fluffy" blue coat, blue jeans, and black sneakers.

CSPD Cold Case: Radford Michael Miles

In the early morning hours of February 7, 1981, Radford Michael Miles was found lying on the third-floor landing of a stairwell of an apartment building located on Bijou Street, suffering from an apparent stab wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he lived for five days before succumbing to his wounds. The investigation revealed that the victim had been at a bar near Airport Road and Circle Drive on the preceding Friday evening and he may have had more than $400 cash on him. Officers found he had only a few dollars with him, suggesting a robbery as a possible motive. The investigation remains open.

CSPD Cold Case: Joseph Talahytewa

In the early morning hours of February 8, 1996, CSPD Officers responded to reports that a person had been assaulted near Pikes Peak Avenue and Wasatch Avenue. The investigation revealed that the victim, 40-year-old Joseph Talahytewa, was involved in a fight the night before. Unfortunately, Mr. Talahytewa slipped into a coma and never regained consciousness. Before Mr. Talahytewa lost consciousness, he told witnesses that three males had hit him in the head with a 2x4. It appeared possible that one of the white male suspects might have also sustained injuries during the fight. A search of the area, as well as interviews with witnesses and associates of the victim, failed to identify any of the suspects.

CSPD Cold Case: Lloyd Samuelson

On February 12, 1971, 53-year-old Lloyd J. Samuelson - a local artist and art teacher at Palmer High School - was found deceased from apparent gunshot wounds inside his residence, located on North Custer Street. Follow school faculty discovered Mr. Samuelson when they went to his house after he did not show up to work. The investigation revealed that Mr. Samuelson died inside his house of multiple gunshot wounds. However, no weapon was found at the scene. Numerous persons, including relatives, social and work acquaintances, and other potential witnesses were interviewed and evidence recovered from the scene was forensically examined. No chargeable suspects have been identified and the investigation remains open.

CSPD Cold Case: Cassandra Rundle, Melanie & Detrick Sturm

On February 14, 1985, CSPD Officers responded to the home of 37-year-old Cassandra Rundle for reports of a homicide. When officers arrived they found the bodies of Cassandra Rundle and her two young children, 12-year-old Detrick Sturm and 10-year-old Melanie Sturm. The El Paso County Coroner determined that all three victims died as a result of strangulation. Both Cassandra and Melanie had also been sexually assaulted. Throughout the years since the homicides took place, hundreds of interviews of witnesses, potential witnesses, and persons of interest have been conducted. However, no substantive leads have been developed.

CSPD Cold Case: De'Vante Hill

In the early morning hours of February 15, 2014, CSPD Officers were dispatched to Airport Road in response to shots fired. When officers arrived they located Mr. De'Vante Hill with an apparent gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. Witnesses described seeing a gold or tan sedan leaving the area at a high rate of speed shortly after the shots were fired. Despite numerous interviews and thorough follow up, no suspects have been identified at this time.

CSPD Cold Case: Rodney Kirschenman

On February 17, 1991, Rodney Kirschenman was found deceased next to the Martin Drake Power Plant by a security guard of a local business. An autopsy revealed that Mr. Kirschenman had cuts on his wrists and significant bruising to his face and body. The cause of death was determined to be strangulation. An investigation revealed that Mr. Kirschenman had left home the evening prior at about 8:30 PM  and was walking to Monty's Tavern on South Tejon Street to meet with friends. His death remains an open investigation.

CSPD Cold Case: Kiera Taylor

On February 17, 2009, CSPD Officers responded to the 3600 Block of El Morro Road for reports of an unresponsive three-year-old female. The child, later identified as Kiera Taylor, was transported to a local hospital. The next day she was unfortunately pronounced deceased. The manner of Kiera Taylor's death was ruled a homicide. Despite several interviews and follow-ups, the homicide of Kiera Taylor remains unsolved.

CSPD Cold Case: Kenneth Pritchett

On February 18, 2014, CSPD Officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 3600 block of East Galley Road. Responding officers found a male, later identified as Mr. Kenneth Pritchett, who was shot multiple times. Unfortunately, Mr. Pritchett was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses described seeing a group of males arguing with MR. Pritchett. Despite several interviews and extensive follow-ups, this case remains open.

CSPD Cold Case: Melissa Riedell

On March 7, 1986, a family member arrived home to find 15-year-old Melissa Riedell deceased. Melissa's cause of death was determined to be stab wounds. Police found no evidence of forced entry and did not see any signs of significant struggle or items stolen from the apartment. Numerous friends, associates, neighbors, and members of the victim's family were interviewed and physical evidence was collected from the scene. Forensic testing was done on several items of evidence during the initial investigation and continues as this technology advances.

CSPD Cold Case: Marvin Teigen

On March 13, 1983, at approximately 2:30 PM, 38-year-old Marvin Teigen was found deceased inside his hotel room at the Chateau Motel. When officers arrived on the scene, they found Mr. Teigen on the floor, beaten with multiple stab wounds. At this time, no suspects have been identified in this case.

CSPD Cold Case: Annabelle & Thomas Leonard

On March 16, 2003, around 1:12 AM, the Colorado Springs Fire Department was dispatched to the 3800 block of Constitution Avenue on a report of smoke emanating from a residence. Upon arrival, they located the bodies of 84-year-old Annabelle Leonard and her son, 49-year-old Thomas Leonard. The investigation revealed that both victims died as a result of stab wounds and their townhome had been ransacked.

CSPD Cold Case: Ricky Allen

On March 18, 1991, at approximately 10:11 PM, a friend found the deceased body of Ricky Allen on the floor of Mr. Allen's residence in the 800 block of Zion Drive with an apparent gunshot wound. A cocked handgun was in the victim's hand. Crime scene analysts and detectives concluded that the scene was staged to make it look like a suicide. Interviews with family and friends were completed and evidence was also recovered from the victim's residence. The investigation remains open.

CSPD Cold Case: Frances Blackman

On March 22, 1962, CSPD Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of East Bijou Street for reports of an assault. Arriving officers contacted the victim, 78-year-old Frances Blackman, who told officers that she had been sitting in a rocking chair inside her home when an unknown man entered the apartment without knocking and asked if she had a room to rent. At this time the man approached her and hit her on the head with a rock. The victim was transported to a local hospital where she was treated for a head injury. However, she died as a result of complications from the injury almost three months later.

CSPD Cold Case: Shelley Dorsey

On March 24, 2011, CSPD responded to a shooting in the 100 block of South Academy Boulevard at the Mountain Country Estates Apartments. The victim was identified as 26-year-old Shelley Dorsey of Colorado Springs. Ms. Dorsey's death was ruled a homicide by a gunshot wound. Early reports from the investigation revealed Ms. Dorsey was sitting in her car outside of the apartment when she was shot by an unknown suspect. No arrests have been made.

CSPD Cold Case: Jean Begin

On March 26, 1971, employees of the Alamo Hotel at 128 S. Tejon Street became concerned about one of their long-term residents when he did not show up for a social engagement. They checked his room and found the victim, 75-year-old Jean Begin, deceased in his bed. Responding officers noted that Mr. Begin appeared to have been struck several times with a heavy object. Investigators did not identify a motive or information on specific persons who had been in conflict with the elderly victim.

CSPD Missing Persons: Bekime Elshani

On March 31, 2008, Bekime "Becky" Elshani, was reported missing to CSPD by a family member. Ms. Elshani was last seen on the morning of March 31, 2008, around Twin Oaks Drive in Colorado Springs. The circumstances surrounding Ms. Elshani's disappearance are considered suspicious and foul play is suspected. At the time of her disappearance, Ms. Elshani was described as a white female, 22 years old, 5'5", approximately 110-120 lbs., with blonde hair and blue eyes.

CSPD Missing Persons: Deborah Herriford

On March 31, 2011, Deborah Herriford was last seen in the area near her residence located near Vickers Drive and North Union Boulevard. Deborah was reported missing by her family on April 3, 2011. The circumstances surrounding Ms. Herriford's disappearance are considered suspicious and this investigation has been investigated as a homicide. Despite the passing of time, CSPD is still actively investigating this case. At the time of her disappearance, Ms. Herriford was described as a white female, 51-years-old, 5'4", with brown hair and blue eyes.

CSPD Cold Case: Carolyn June O'Kelley

On April 14, 1988, 29-year-old Carolyn June O'Kelley, nicknamed Dodee, was found deceased In a motel room at the Circle S Motel in the 1600 block of Nevada Ave. The investigation revealed that Ms. O’Kelley was stabbed multiple times by an unidentified assailant. Ms. O’Kelley was last seen on April 12, 1988 and the investigation into her death remains open.

CSPD Cold Case: Virgil Delano Gambles

On April 17, 1974, at approximately 11:25 PM, officers were dispatched to a liquor store In the 700 block of East Costilla Street. for reports of shots fired. The investigation revealed 29-year-old Virgil Gambles, his brother, and his nephew were at the liquor store when they recognized people drinking in the back parking lot. A physical confrontation occurred between Mr. Gambles' brother and another male. Mr. Gambles, his brother, and his nephew returned later to purchase beer. while they were outside of the liquor store, shots were fired, hitting Mr. Gambles, his brother and his nephew. Mr. Gambles was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

CSPD Cold Case: Terry Wilson

On April 18, 2007, at approximately 10:30 PM, officers responded to the 300 block of E. Pikes Peak Ave. regarding reports of shots fired. When officers arrived, they located a taxi that appeared to be involved in a collision. Inside the taxi was 53-year-old Terry Wilson with an apparent gunshot wound. Dozens of people were contacted and interviewed due to the shooting having occurred in the street in front of an extremely busy nightclub. The investigation revealed that there was an apparent gun battle between two groups of individuals. There was no indication that Mr. Wilson was a part of the disturbance or the subsequent gun battle.

CSPD Cold Case: Jocelyn Sandberg

On April 26, 2002, at approximately 4:40 AM, 41-year-old Jocelyn Sandberg was found stabbed to death near E. Cache la Poudre St. and N. Cascade Avenue. A friend who was with Ms. Sandberg at the time told police the pair were returning from a concert when an unidentified man stepped In front of their vehicle. Ms. Sandberg went to confront the man and followed him down the street. Ms. Sandberg never returned to the vehicle. Another witness also saw a woman and another Individual arguing around the same time and location.

CSPD Missing Persons: Sandra Patterson

On April 26th, 2011, Ms. Sandra Patterson was reported missing to the Colorado Springs Police Department by a family member. She was last seen by family members on February 28, 2009. Ms. Patterson is described as a 47-year-old white female, 5’2’’, approximately 120-130 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

CSPD Cold Case: Angelina Sicola

On May 2, 2013, 20-year-old Angelina Sicola, a student at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, was found deceased inside her apartment at 3807 Halfturn Rd. The investigation revealed that Ms. Sicola was likely killed inside her apartment, and the autopsy showed she had died as a result of forcible strangulation. Since 2013 investigators have conducted interviews with numerous friends, neighbors, co-workers, fellow students, and social media contacts of the victim but no suspect has been identified. Numerous items of evidence recovered from the scene were examined, and forensic examination of both physical and electronic evidence continues.

CSPD Cold Case: Karen Kay Johns

On May 21, 1991, at approximately 2:00 PM, officers responded to reports of gunshots at Monument Valley Park. When they arrived on scene, they located the body of Karen Johns who appeared to have sustained a gunshot wound to the head. The investigation revealed that Ms. Johns was in her vehicle at the time of the shooting. Witnesses reported that after hearing a gunshot, they saw Ms. Johns car roll to a stop off the roadway. Ms. Johns was employed by the American Red Cross and had apparently been in the park on a lunch break. No weapons were found in or around the victim's vehicle.

CSPD Cold Case: Alford Henderson Norris

On June 1, 1954, CSPD officers responded to a home in the 100 block of South Corona St on a report that an elderly couple had been assaulted inside their residence. Arriving officers found 81-year-old Alford Henderson Norris and his 75-year-old wife Charlotte Norris suffering from severe blunt force trauma. They were both transported to a local hospital where Mr. Norris succumbed to his injuries. Mrs. Norris survived and was released a few weeks later. She also told officers that an unknown black male entered their home the day prior, May 31st, and assaulted the Norris's. Despite an area search and multiple interviews, no chargeable suspects have been named.

CSPD Cold Case: Artie Borden

On May 28, 1980, officers responded to an assault at a boarding house on E. Fountain Blvd. Arriving officers found 83-year-old Artie A. Borden, the boarding house operator, severely beaten and semi-conscious. Mr. Borden was unable to identify his attacker or provide details of the assault. He was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries 13 days later, on June 10. The tenant who called the police reported having overheard an argument between the victim and an unknown man; shortly thereafter he found Mr. Borden beaten and lying on his kitchen floor. An extensive investigation did not identify a chargeable suspect and the investigation remains open.

CSPD Cold Case: Demetrius Binion

In the very early morning of June 15, 2008, police responded to a 911 call for service about a shooting in the 200 block of N. Murray Blvd. Officers discovered the victim, Demetrius Donnell Binion, inside the apartment deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. Binion, who was also known as “Meechi,” had recently come to Colorado Springs from Chicago. At this time, no arrests have been made and this investigation is still on going.

CSPD Cold Case: Jose Damion Quiroz - Rivera

On June 16, 2001, CSPD Officers responded to a report of an unresponsive person in an apartment at 345 Vehr Drive. There, they found Jose Damion Quiroz-Rivera deceased from multiple stab wounds. The investigation revealed that earlier that morning a group of about 10 young Hispanic men came to the apartment building asking for "Gato" and eventually made their way to the victim's apartment. Witnesses saw them enter the apartment, heard sounds of a struggle, then saw the men flee in two cars, one possibly a maroon Mercury Cougar and a dark blue over light blue Toyota type pick up truck with a camper shell on it. This investigation is still ongoing.

CSPD Cold Case: Agnes Foland & Michael Larson

While responding to a trespassing complaint, CSPD officers checked a vacant field near 1600 Lenmar for homeless individuals on June 16, 2002. As officers entered the camp, they observed that two tents had been set up. In front of one of the tents, they observed the deceased body of an adult male identified as Michael Larson. Inside the tent, officers found a deceased adult female, identified as Agnes Foland. Both victims had been stabbed to death. The victims had been dead for several days before their discovery. As of this date, no arrests have been made in this case. The investigation is still ongoing.

CSPD Cold Case: Linda Thompson

On June 18, 1973, while Linda Thompson was dropping her young son off at her babysitter's house in the 2400 block of Airport Rd, she was shot by an unknown assailant in the front yard of the residence. Ms. Thompson managed to walk back inside the house and ask for help, then collapsed on the floor. She was taken to St. Francis hospital where was declared deceased. Witnesses who were inside the house at the time of the shooting reported hearing two gunshots and seeing a large dark-colored car, possibly a Cadillac, parked in a lot across the street. A man was seen running from the area, but the man was not identified at the time. The investigation is still ongoing.

On July 1st, 1973, the Colorado Springs Police Department received a call regarding a possible dead body located in the Palmer Park area of Colorado Springs. Upon their arrival, officers located a deceased female, who was identified as Ms. Mary Byrd. It was determined that Ms. Byrd had died from multiple stab wounds. Several persons of interested were interviewed however, no suspects were identified. The murder of Ms. Byrd remains open.

CSPD Cold Case: Charles Glover

On July 2nd, 1992, at approximately 2:28 A.M., Colorado Springs Police Officers were dispatched to 1411 South Nevada Avenue, the Motel De Ville, regarding a possible shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located the victim who was identified as Mr. Charles Glover. Mr. Glover, who had been shot, was transported to St. Francis hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Mr. Glover served in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Carson at the time of his death. As of this date, no arrests have been made in Mr. Glover’s murder. CSPD Missing Persons: Angela Stevens

On July 2, 1996, 16-year-old Angela Stevens was reported missing and was last seen around 6:46 a.m. by a CHINS-UP staff member when Angela ran from the facility. She was last heard from the next day on July 3, 1996 via phone call saying she was at Memorial Hospital and a friend was picking her up. She was last seen wearing a fuchsia hat and shirt, black shorts, and black sandals. Ms. Stevens can be described as a black female, approximately 5’8” and 180 lbs., with black hair and brown eyes. Despite the passing of time, CSPD Cold Case detectives are still actively working to find answers.

On July 5th, 2001, the Colorado Springs Police Department was dispatched to the Queens Knights Lounge, located at 685 North Murray Boulevard, regarding a shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located 32-year-old Mr. Ricarge “Ricky” Williams, who had been shot. Mr. Williams was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. During this investigation, many witnesses were interviewed however, no arrests were made. This case remains open. On July 6, 1990, 15-year-old Robert Pillsen was reported missing. He was last seen on July 6,1990 around 8:24 A.M. wearing a blue shirt, black trousers, and glasses with silver frames and tinted lenses. Mr. Pillsen can be described as a white male, approximately 5’9” and 180 lbs, with brown hair and brown eyes. He ran away from Cheyenne Mesa Youth Treatment Facility and was last seen lying in a field, but later left the premises. On July 6th, 1999, at approximately 6:24 A.M., Colorado Springs Police Officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of Lehmberg Boulevard regarding a party not breathing. Upon arriving on scene, officers located the victim who was identified as Mr. William Muse. Mr. Muse had severe head trauma and was deceased on scene. The murder of Mr. Muse remains open. CSPD Cold Case: Jose Gomez & Jose Robles

On Saturday, July 9th, 2011, at approximately 1:55 A.M., officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department were dispatched to a large disturbance in the 800 block of Tia Juana Street. During this incident, multiple people were injured to include Mr. Jose Robles and Mr. Jose Gomez. Unfortunately, Mr. Robles and Mr. Gomez succumbed to their injures at a local hospital. Although individuals were interviewed and various items of evidence were collected, no arrests have been made in this investigation. This investigation remains open.

CSPD Cold Case: Alex Franklin

On July 11th, 2019, at approximately 6:05 A.M., the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to a call of a shooting in the 3300 block of Knoll Lane. Upon arrival, officers located a male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The male was identified as 27-year-old Alex Franklin. Mr. Franklin was transported to a local medical facility where he succumbed to his injures. As of this date no persons have been charged in connection with Mr. Franklin’s murder and his case is currently considered open and active.

CSPD Cold Case: Cindy Arias & Luis Sandoval-Tapia

On July 12th, 2015 at approximately 10:13 P.M., the Colorado Springs Police Department was dispatched to a disturbance near the area of the 1400 block of Jet Wing Drive. Upon their arrival, officers contacted witnesses and located evidence that suggested that a violent disturbance had occurred in a residence, however, no injured individuals were located. On July 13th, 2015, at approximately 4:30 P.M., deputies from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office responded to the area of Baggett Road and Falcon Highway in Calhan, Colorado regarding two deceased individuals. The deceased individuals were identified as Ms. Cindy Arias and Mr. Luis Sandoval-Tapia. It was determined that their deaths were connected to the disturbance the previous evening and the manner of their deaths were homicide. This investigation is still open and active.

CSPD Cold Case: Randy Lebeau

On July 13th, 1995 at approximately 12:00 P.M., the Colorado Springs Police Department was notified of a person who was slumped over steering wheel of a running vehicle in the 1700 block of South Academy Boulevard. When officers arrived they located the vehicle, a black Dodge Daytona, along with Mr. Randy Lebeau who had an apparent gunshot wound. Mr. Lebeau was transported to a local hospital where he remained in a coma until he succumbed to his injures on July 30th, 1995. As of this date, there have been no arrests and the investigation into Mr. Lebeau’s death remains open.

CSPD Missing Persons: Christopher Abeyta

On July 15, 1986 at approximately 6:30 a.m., officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department were dispatched to the 3300 block of Ashwood Circle regarding a missing child. Upon the officers’ arrival, it was determined that 7 month old Christopher Abeyta was last seen in his crib at approximately 12:30 a.m. At approximately 6:30 a.m., family members awoke to Christopher missing. The circumstances surrounding Christopher’s disappearance are considered suspicious.

CSPD Cold Case: Jamil Salaam

On July 17th, 2007, at approximately 4:40 A.M., the Colorado Springs Police Department received a report of a shooting in the 800 block of Chapman Drive, formerly known as the Pine Creek Apartments. Upon their arrival, officers located 22-year-old Mr. Jamil Salaam who ultimately succumbed to his injuries. During the investigation, it was learned that Mr. Salaam and another person were outside in the parking lot when they were approached by three individuals. After a brief conversation, Mr. Salaam was shot multiple times and succumbed to his injuries on scene. The suspects fled the scene. Although neighborhood follow-up and multiple interviews were completed throughout the investigation, Mr. Salaam’s murder is still unsolved and remains open.

On July 20th, 2014 at approximately 8:19 P.M., officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department were dispatched to the 2000 block of St. Claire Park Alley regarding a shooting call for service. Upon their arrival, officers located Mr. Michael Garcia who had been shot. Mr. Garcia succumbed to his injuries on scene. During the investigation many interviews were conducted and no arrests were made. Mr. Garcia’s case is still open.

CSPD Missing Persons: Amadeo Vigil

On July 21, 1980, Amadeo Vigil was reported missing by a family member. Mr. Vigil was 24 years old at the time of his disappearance. He was last seen on July 11, 1980, hitchhiking on I-25 near the Bijou exit heading south. He had planned to hitchhike to Fort Garland, Colorado. Amadeo can be described as a Hispanic/Latino male, approximately 135lbs, 5’6” to 5’7”, with brown eyes and brown wavy hair. Mr. Vigil was last seen wearing an off-white colored shirt, jeans, maroon tennis shoes, an African beaded leather necklace, and a silver chain with a happy face on it. He also had on him a green backpack with a leather bottom, a rust-colored nylon Rainbow Co. wallet, and possibly a ticket from a Colorado Springs pawn shop.

CSPD Cold Case: Edward Connaughton

On July 27th, 1981, co-workers of 57-year-old Mr. Edward Connaughton became concerned when Mr. Connaughton did not show up for work. Co-workers attempted to contact Mr. Connaughton at his residence, located in the 1500 block of Shasta Drive. Upon their arrival they located Mr. Connaughton deceased inside of his home. Mr. Connaughton was known to open his home to transient/homeless individuals. No arrests have been made in Mr. Connaughton’s murder however his investigation is still open.

On July 30, 1990, Gayla Barnes was reported missing by a family member. She was last seen around 4:00 a.m. on the morning of July 29, 1990 where she had indicated that she was headed to Denver, Colorado. Ms. Barnes was 34 at the time of her disappearance and can be described as a white female, approximately 5’9” and 130lbs, with brown hair and green eyes. She was last seen wearing blue jeans. Her vehicle was later recovered by the Aurora Police Department. The circumstances surrounding Ms. Barnes’ disappearance are considered suspicious. CSPD Cold Case: Judy Diebold

On August 7th, 1989, 27-year-old Judy Diebold was reported missing by family members. On August 15th, 1989, Ms. Diebold’s body was located just off Rampart Range Road near Garden of the Gods. The investigation revealed that Ms. Diebold had been at a gathering just east of downtown Colorado Springs several days before she was reported missing. Many interviews were conducted during this investigation however no arrests have been made in Ms. Diebold’s murder.

On August 9th, 2001, 20-year-old Ms. Terah Thornhill was reported missing by a family member. Ms. Thornhill was last seen in the summer of 2000 in the Colorado Springs area, however, she has not been heard from since. Ms. Thornhill is described as a white female, 5’6’’, 150 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.

CSPD Cold Case: Renan Garcia-Leon

On August 9th, 2008, officers responded to a reported stabbing in the 3900 block of Bijou Street. When officers arrived on the scene, they located a deceased adult male suffering from apparent stab wounds. The victim, Mr. Renan Garcia-Leon, was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased. During the investigation, it was learned that two unknown male suspects approached the victim and demanded money. When Mr. Garcia-Leon refused, a physical altercation occurred, and Mr. Garcia-Leon was stabbed. Despite continued follow-up interviews and investigation, the suspects in Mr. Garcia-Leon’s murder were never identified.

On August 10th, 1987, Sherry Bynum was reported missing by a family member. She was last seen near Dublin Boulevard and Vincent Drive on August 9th, 1987, and was wearing yellow shorts, a red and white top, and flip-flops. Ms. Bynum can be described as a white/Caucasian female, approximately 5’6” and 135 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. The circumstances surrounding Ms. Bynum’s disappearance are considered suspicious.

CSPD Cold Case: Charles McLaughlin

On August 13th, 1974, at approximately 9:50 P.M., officers responded to the Wrigley’s Grocery Store, located in the 2500 block of Airport Road, regarding a robbery and shooting. Arriving officers located 31-year-old Mr. Charles McLaughlin, the store’s assistant manager, who had been shot. Mr. McLaughlin was pronounced deceased on scene. Witnesses reported Mr. McLaughlin had been shot during the robbery. The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 30 years old, 6’’ tall wearing a light blue shirt and beige-colored hat with a short brim. Throughout this investigation, no suspects were arrested for the murder of Mr. McLaughlin and his case remains open.

CSPD Cold Case: Andrew Tuncap

On August 14th, 2008, at approximately 10:41 P.M., officers received reports of a shooting at the 7-Eleven located in the 1200 block of East Fillmore Street. Arriving officers found the victim, identified as 24-year-old Andrew Tuncap, lying on the floor inside the store. Mr. Tuncap had been shot several times and was deceased on the scene. Investigators conducted numerous interviews and forensically examined the evidence in an attempt to identify the suspects. Unfortunately, no arrests have been made in Mr. Tuncap’s murder and his investigation remains open.

CSPD Cold Case: John Knudsen

On August 15th, 2012, at approximately 11:00 A.M., several community members running along the Santa Fe Trail, just south of the Cimarron bridge, called the CSPD Communications Center to report a deceased male near the wooden pedestrian bridge over Fountain Creek. The victim, identified as Mr. John Knudsen, had sustained multiple stab wounds. It is believed Mr. Knudsen was injured near where he was found. Witnesses who had been in the area less than 30 minutes earlier reported Mr. Knudsen had not been there at that time.

On August 20th, 2017, at approximately 1:21 A.M., officers responded to a reported shooting at the Playing Field Sports Bar, located in the 3900 block of North Academy Boulevard. Arriving officers located the victim, 24-year-old Kenneth Hatcher, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Mr. Hatcher was transported to the local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Despite numerous interviews and follow-up investigative efforts, no arrests have been made.

On August 28, 1991, 54-year-old Daniel Miranda was reported missing. He was last seen on August 12, 1991, wearing a white cowboy hat, blue western shirt, and blue jeans. Mr. Miranda can be described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5’11”, 185 lbs, with black hair and brown eyes. Mr. Miranda left in a rental car that was rented for him by a friend. The vehicle was described as a 1991 maroon Mazda 4-door sedan. Mr. Miranda said he was going to Denver to visit some friends and would return the following day but has not been heard from since.

On August 30th, 1973, at approximately 10:22 P.M., the Colorado Springs Police Department was notified by a witness that a female had been stabbed in the 200 block of South Prospect Street. Officers responded to the area and located the victim, who was identified as 21-year-old Ms. Brenda Pierce, deceased on the scene. Ms. Pierce’s homicide investigation remains open and active.

On the morning of August 30th, 2000, co-workers of 26-year-old Monique LaSuer found Ms. LaSuer deceased inside the Palmer House motel where they worked. Ms. LaSuer had reported for her regular shift as a night auditor at 11:00 P.M. the night before and was scheduled to work alone at the front desk until 7:00 A.M. the following day. Throughout the years, several potential witnesses and suspects were interviewed. However, Ms. LaSauer’s homicide investigation remains open.

On September 1st, 2012, officers began investigating the disappearance of Mr. Leval Storey. Mr. Storey was last seen on August 28th, 2012 and his disappearance is considered suspicious. Mr. Storey, who also went by the nickname New York, is described as a 24-year-old mixed-race male, 5’9’’, approximately 147 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. CSPD Cold Case: Shirely Ann Lacks

On September 5, 1990, Shirley Ann Lacks was brought to a local hospital in a private vehicle. She was treated in the E.R. but died from a gunshot wound the same day. The man who drove Ms. Lacks to the hospital told police that he and the victim had been sitting in his car at the intersection of Rio Grande and Nevada when an unknown man approached the car and shot through the driver's window, striking Ms. Lacks. Numerous interviews were conducted and forensic evidence was examined. However, no sufficient information was produced to bring charges and the case remains open.

CSPD Cold Case: Rosa Desalvo

On September 6, 1995, at approximately 8:40 AM, CSPD officers responded to a report of a deceased body at the Citadel Village Apartments on Galley Road. Arriving officers located 86-year-old Rosa Desalvo deceased in her bed. The victim showed signs of an apparent assault. Through the investigation, it was discovered the suspect likely entered through her open bedroom window and left through the front door. Interviews with neighbors and friends developed the names of suspicious persons who might be suspects, but insufficient information was developed and no arrests have been made.

CSPD Cold Case: John Michael Jones

On September 9, 2000, at approximately 8:39 AM, CSPD officers were dispatched to reports of a deceased body under the Cimmaron Street
overpass. Arriving officers located the body of a deceased male, later identified as John Michael Jones. Mr. Jones had only been in Colorado
Springs for approximately one week. The El Paso County Coroner reported that the victim died due to blunt force trauma to the head, neck, and face. He also sustained several stab wounds. To this day, no suspects have been identified and the case of Mr. Jones's murder remains open.

CSPD Missing Persons: Martin Hobson

On September 12th, 2015, Mr. Martin Hobson was reported missing by family members to the Colorado Springs Police Department. Mr. Hobson was last seen in the afternoon of Monday, September 7th, 2015 in the neighborhood near Newton Drive and Chelton Road where Mr. Hobson lived. Since 2015, family and friends have not had any contact with Mr. Hobson. Mr. Hobson is described as a 59-year-old black male, 6’0’’, with brown hair and brown eyes. Mr. Hobson also has a medical condition that requires regular medication.

CSPD Cold Case: John Martinez

On September 14, 2011, CSPD officers received a call about an assault that occurred the previous night. The victim, Mr. John Martinez, was beaten while sleeping at a playground at Dorchester Park. He succumbed to his injuries eight days after the assault. Numerous persons who frequent Dorchester Park and persons who knew the victim were interviewed. Possible forensic evidence was gathered from the crime scene, however, the investigation into the death of Mr. Martinez remains open.

CSPD Cold Case: James Gaughan

On September 28, 1960, CSPD officers received a call from the family of Mr. James Gaughan, who told officers they had not heard from him in some time. When officers responded to his home for a wellness check, they found Mr. Gaughan deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. The investigation revealed he was last seen in public at the COS Dog track the previous night. No items were missing from the home, and it was not believed the murder resulted from an attempted burglary. No eyewitnesses or suspects have been identified and the case remains open.

CSPD Cold Case: Stephan Wilson

On October 1, 2010, at 10:10 AM the Colorado Springs Police Department was notified of a possible dead body in the 6500 block of Del Monico Drive. When officers arrived, they located the body of a deceased adult male, who was later identified as 32-year-old Stephan Wilson. The coroner's office ruled the cause of death to be a gunshot wound to the head. A preliminary investigation by the CSPD revealed that officers were dispatched to the same location one night before to investigate a noise complaint. The apartment complex management wished to resolve the matter themselves and went to contact the resident the next day. They then found Wilson deceased at his home the next morning. This investigation is still ongoing.

CSPD Cold Case: Jerome Nelson

On October 1, 2020, at approximately 7:17PM, the Colorado Springs Police Department received multiple calls regarding a shooting which occurred in the 300 block of University Drive. When officers arrived, they located two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to a local hospital where one of the victims, Jerome Nelson, succumbed to his injuries. The second victim was treated and released. At this time, no suspects have been arrested in the death of Jerome Nelson and the investigation remains open.

CSPD Missing Persons: Gloria Berreth

On October 6, 1994, 38-year-old Gloria Berreth was reported missing after she had not shown up to pick her children up after work at Peterson Air Force Base. She was last heard from via phone call at around 6:30 a.m. on October 4, 1994. Ms. Berreth can be described as an Asian female,
approximately 5’00” and 115lbs, with black hair and brown eyes. She was likely wearing a gold-colored watch and a cross necklace. Gloria's 1991 Ford Taurus was found abandoned at the Hancock Plaza shopping center weeks later. The circumstances surrounding Ms. Barreth’s disappearance are considered suspicious. Despite the passing of time, CSPD Cold Case detectives are still actively working to find answers.

CSPD Cold Case: Dorthy Beazell

On October 10, 1957, CSPD responded to a call for service in the 1300 block of LaSalle street for reports of an unconscious woman. Then officers arrived, they located a 50-year-old adult woman identified as Dorthy Beazell. Ms. Beazell's husband, a local doctor, and a nurse attempted medical intervention with the victim before the arrival of first responders. However, those attempts were unsuccessful and Ms. Beazell was pronounced dead on the scene. An autopsy was performed and the cause of death was listed as cyanide poisoning. No arrests of been made and this case remains open.

CSPD Cold Case: Sherry Boyd

On October 16, 1987, CSPD received reports of a dead body floating in Prospect Lake. The body was later identified as 44-year-old Sherry Boyd. It was discovered that about 10 years prior, Ms. Boyd had been the victim of a previous assault that left her primarily confined to a wheelchair. Evidence suggested Ms. Boyd was killed by strangulation and placed in the lake. No suspects have been arrested in Ms. Boyd's death and her investigation remains open.

CSPD Cold Case: Carlos Zuasnaba - Gutierrez

On October 20, 2013, at approximately 5:12 AM, the Colorado Springs Police Department was notified of a possible dead body behind a local business in the 3900 block of North Academy Boulevard. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a deceased male in the parking lot area southwest of Austin Bluffs Parkway and Academy Blvd. The victim was later identified as 25-year-old Carlos Eduardo Zuasnabar. An autopsy released that the victim had suffered a stab wound and his death was ruled a homicide. This case remains open.

CSPD Cold Case: Barbara Freyschlag

On October 25, 1986, CSPD was notified of a deceased body on Constellation Drive. When officers arrived, they found a deceased female who had been shot multiple times. Mrs. Freyschlag had gone to a party in the evening and was left alone. In the course of the investigation, police found no indication of sexual assault, a struggle, robbery, or forced entry; nor did the house appear to have been ransacked. The murder weapon was never identified or retrieved. Investigators have yet to identify a suspect and this case remains open.

CSPD Cold Case: Nathaniel Czajkowski

On October 29, 2017, at approximately 3:00 AM, CSPD officers were dispatched to the area of Albertacos located at the 4400 block of Austin Bluffs Parkway regarding a shooting call for service. Upon the officers' arrival, they located multiple victims who had been shot, including 16-year-old Nathaniel Czajkowski who had been killed. Despite multiple interviews, no suspect has been identified and this investigation is still open.

On January 15th, 1990 Mr. Leland Zook was reported missing by a family member. He was last seen on November 1, 1989 in either the downtown Colorado Springs area or the downtown Denver area. Mr. Zook is described as a 62-year-old white male, approximately 5’8” and 135lbs, with black hair and blue eyes. He is known to not carry identification with him.\

CSPD Cold Case: Luis "Lucky" Molina

On November 2, 2018, at approximately 9:00 AM, CSPD officers were dispatched to the area of the 1700 block of Mount Washington Street in response to a deceased individual in Cheyenne Creek. Upon their arrival, they located Mr. Luis "Lucky" Molina deceased with traumatic injuries. During the investigation, no suspect has been identified and no arrests have been made. The investigation remains open.

On November 4, 2006, at approximately 5:13 PM, CSPD officers were dispatched to 370 N Murray Blvd for a female who was laying unconscious, unresponsive, and not breathing. The victim, identified as Renee Whitcher, was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. The El Paso County Corner later reported that Ms. Whitcher died as a result of blunt-force trauma to the abdominal area. This investigation remains open.

On November 6, 2001, 83-Year-old JD Ferguson was reported missing by his housekeeper. Mr. Ferguson was last seen by a family member on November 5, 2001 around 5:00 p.m. Mr. Ferguson is described as a white male, approximately 5’10” and 185 lbs, with white hair and brown eyes. Mr. Ferguson is known to frequent bars around the Colorado Springs area. The circumstances surrounding Mr. Ferguson’s disappearance are considered suspicious.

On December 9th, 2014, Mr. Clinton Sutton was reported missing by a family member. Mr. Sutton was last seen around November 6th, 2014 when he was dropped off at a motel in the 1200-1400 block of South Nevada Avenue. Mr. Sutton is described as a 34-year-old white male, approximately 5’10’’-6’0’’, 185-200 lbs. with brown hair and brown eyes. Mr. Sutton had previously used the names Jamerson and Bugler.

CSPD Cold Case: Carlos Espinoza

On November 7, 2013, around 8:40 PM, CSPD responded to reports of shots fired in the area of Murray Boulevard and Bryon Drive. Arriving officers found a man, later identified as 22-year-old Carlos Steven Espinoza, lying in the middle of the street with an apparent gunshot wound. Witnesses reported seeing one person running from the scene around the time of the gunfire and described the suspect as a male who was relatively short in stature and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. Despite follow-up interviews with witnesses, this case remains open.

On November 9, 1997, at approximately 3:08 AM, CSPD was dispatched to the alleyway in the 1200 block of S. Nevada Ave, for reports of an unresponsive male. When officers arrived, they found the body of an adult male, who was identified as Michael Dobbins. Mr. Dobbins appeared to have sustained stab wounds to his body. There are no identified suspects at this time and this investigation remains open.

CSPD Cold Case: Marjorie Mock

On November 10, 1995, CSPD Officers responded to the Citadel Village Apartments, located at the 3400 block of Galley Road, on reports of a deceased woman. Officers located the body of 96-year-old Marjorie Inez Mock, who appeared to have sustained a degree of blunt-force trauma. Investigators interviewed neighbors and potential witnesses, however, they were unable to identify any chargeable suspects. This case remains open at this time.

CSPD Cold Case: Cecelia Benefield

On November 18, 1990, deputies from El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPCSO) conducted a welfare check on EPCSO Lieutenant Cecelia Benefield-Cipriani. When they arrived at her home in the Ivy-wild area, they found Lt. Benefield-Cipriani on the floor, still in uniform, deceased from multiple gunshot wounds. Evidence at the scene indicated that several rooms of the home had been ransacked. No eyewitnesses were identified, and neighbors did not identify unusual activity around the house near the time of the crime; although it was learned that several residential burglaries had recently occurred in the area. This case remains open.

CSPD Cold Case: Essel Levin

On November 19, 1981, at approximately 11:17 PM, CSPD was dispatched to the 1900 block of Sussex Lane regarding an unresponsive female. When officers arrived, they located the body of Ms. Essel Levin, lying face down in the bushes near the front porch of a residence. It was determined that Ms. Levin had sustained a gunshot wound from close range to her head. The investigation into the death of Ms. Levin remains open.

On November 20, 1995, 38-year-old Edith Bernice Lehnerz was reported missing by family members after not showing up to a friend’s house. Ms. Lehnerz was last contacted via phone on November 16, 1995 at around 8:00 p.m. Ms. Lehnerz has a medical condition involving her heart and was on medication. She had just given birth to a child prior to her disappearance and was last seen wearing pinkish clear round glasses. She is described as a white female, approximately 5’4” and 115lbs, with red hair and brown eyes.

On Friday, November 20, 2015, at approximately 1:30 PM, CSPD responded to a shooting call for service near North Academy Boulevard and East Pikes Peak Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located an individual who was deceased near a transient camp in the area. The victim was identified as 22-year-old Mr. Vance Wilfong. Despite the gathering of evidence and follow-up interviews, this investigation remains open.

CSPD Cold Case: Neil MacEahern

On November 22, 1978, at approximately 10:52 PM, CSPD officers discovered Mr. Neil MacEahern shot to death in a vehicle outside the
Candlelight Inn. An autopsy concluded that the manner of death was a homicide. Although numerous interviews have been conducted and evidence has been collected and examined, the investigation into the murder of Mr. MacEahern remains open.

CSPD Cold Case: Thomas Kinslow

On November 22, 2005, at approximately 1:40 AM, CSPD responded to a call of reports of multiple gunshots in the 3900 block of Constitution
Avenue. When officers arrived, they found the victim, Thomas "Tommy" Kinslow, lying in the middle of the street with apparent gunshot wounds. Witnesses described the subject as a slender male of unknown race, about six feet tall, wearing dark-colored clothing. Forensic evidence was gathered at the crime scene, and numerous follow-up interviews with potential witnesses were conducted, however, no suspect was identified and this case remains open.

CSPD Cold Case: Brandon Browne

On November 25, 2004, at about 9:00 PM, a group of friends visited the Icon Night Club on North Academy Boulevard and then made a trip to Denny's just down the road. On the drive from the club to the restaurant, two males in a dark-colored SUV pulled up next to the group's car and began making advances toward two of the females in the vehicle. After they were rejected, the men in the SUV pulled up in Denny's parking lot behind the group. A verbal altercation occurred, during which shots were fired and the SUV fled. Brandon Browne, age 23, was struck by one of the gunshots while standing in the parking lot and died as a result of the injury. This investigation is still ongoing.

CSPD Cold Case: Kevin Andrews

On November 26, 2005, at approximately 3:40 AM, CSPD Officers responded to a disturbance and shooting in the 2500 block of South Chelton Road. When officers arrived, they discovered a young male, later identified as 26-year-old Kevin Andrews, lying on the ground with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the chest. Witnesses related that the victim and a Hispanic male had an altercation. None of the witnesses to the altercation in the parking lot said they saw the actual shooting of Mr. Andrews. This investigation remains open.

On November 29, 2006, at approximately 6:19 AM, CSPD officers responded to a report of an unconscious man laying next to a bus bench at the intersection of Mallard Drive and Teal Court. Upon arrival, officers discovered a deceased male, later identified as 32-year-old William Dieckman, with an apparent gunshot wound. A subsequent autopsy concluded the manner of death was a homicide resulting from the gunshot wound. This investigation remains open.

CSPD Cold Case: Deborah Robinson Stoudmire

On November 30, 1997, around 2 AM. the mother of Ms. Deborah Anne Robinson-Stoudmire came home - located in the 3900 block of Harmony Drive - and discovered her daughter unresponsive and bleeding profusely. Emergency responders determined Ms. Robinson-Stoudmire was deceased at the scene. The investigation revealed that she had been murdered as a result of a gunshot wound. Deborah was a US Army Aviation Mechanic stationed at Ft. Carson was living with her mother at the time. This case remains open.

CSPD Cold Case: William Fluegel

On December 11, 1987, around 2:27 AM, CSPD officers were notified of a possible dead body located in a duplex on West Vermijo. When officers arrived, they located a deceased burned body, later identified as William Fluegel. The autopsy revealed that Mr. Fluegel died as a result of gunshot wounds; afterwards, his body was set on fire. This homicide remains unsolved.

CSPD Cold Case: Gloria Williams

On December 14, 1983, at 9:05 AM, police were dispatched to the 400 block of E Costilla St on reports of a car being on top of a possibly
deceased person. When officers arrived they found the partially clothed body of 26-year-old Gloria Williams lying underneath a green Chevrolet Nova. The autopsy concluded that Ms. Williams' death was caused by blunt force trauma to her head and torso as a result of being struck by the vehicle. Abrasions were also found on the victim's neck which was consistent with being strangled. Evidence of sexual assault was also present. This case remains open at this time.

CSPD Cold Case: Donald Laabs

On December 18, 1975, around 8:30 PM, CSPD officers were notified of a deceased male in a vehicle stopped along I-25 near the Arvada Street exit. When officers arrived, they found 28-year-old Manitou Springs Police Sergeant Ronald Laabs deceased from a gunshot wound inside his vehicle. Dozens of people associated with Sgt. Laabs, both personally and professionally, was interviewed over the next several months. However, the motive for the murder was not established and no viable suspect(s) were identified. This case remains open.

CSPD Cold Case: Carol Lynn Scott

On December 18, 1977, 18-year-old Carol Lynn Scott was kidnapped from 2700 W Colorado Avenue and was found deceased from strangulation near Monument Valley Park the following morning. Ms. Scott's boyfriend reported that he had been speaking on the phone with Carol Lynn at about 9 PM when he heard a male voice he did not recognize tell her to hang up the phone. She then screamed and the phone went dead. Despite extensive neighborhood follow-up, interviews, and analysis of physical evidence, no chargeable suspects were identified. This case remains open.

CSPD Cold Case: Mary Margaret Caldwell

On December 18, 1980, CSPD officers were dispatched to a report of a dead body at the 800 block of S Meade Ave. Officers found the body of 61-year-old Mary Margaret Caldwell on the floor of her apartment. She had been sexually assaulted and died due to a cardiopulmonary failure incidental to the assault. The investigation revealed the suspect entered Ms. Caldwell's home late on the night of December 17 by climbing onto her balcony. Ms. Caldwell's purse was also stolen. Despite a thorough investigation, no suspects have been identified and this investigation remains open.

CSPD Cold Case: Greg Carter

On December 23, 2009, at approximately 4 PM, CSPD received a call from the medical staff at a local hospital emergency room indicating they were treating an assault victim who had life-threatening injuries. The victim, 43-year-old Greg Carter, was being treated for a traumatic brain injury. Medical personnel removed glass from the victim's scalp, and it is believed he had possibly been beaten with a beer bottle. During the investigation, it was learned that Mr. Carter was displaying odd behaviors around his family on December 22, 2009. After several requests from his family, Mr. Carter went to the hospital on the following day, where he succumbed to his injuries. This investigation is still ongoing.

CSPD Cold Case: Jack Kroecker

On December 25th, 1968, at approximately 12:39 AM, CSPD officers observed an individual, later identified as Mr. Jack Kroecker, lying on the sidewalk in the 100 block of East Cucharras Street. Upon checking on Mr. Kroecker, the found that he was unconscious with an apparent gunshot wound. Mr. Kroecker was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Mr. Kroecker was serving in the United States Army and stationed at Fort Carson at the time of his death.

CSPD Cold Case: Margaret Sweet

On December 25, 2008, CSPD officers responded to the 1300 block of Fosdick Circle on reports of an unconscious woman. The victim, later identified as 38-year-old Margaret Sweet, was found lying face down on her porch with an apparent gunshot wound. An autopsy would conclude the manner of death was a homicide resulting from a gunshot wound. During the investigation, detectives learned of a disturbance where a male was heard yelling at someone which was followed by a gunshot. This disturbance was reported to have occurred on the evening of the homicide near the residence where Ms. Sweet’s body was located. The investigation continues as this case remains open.
