On October 13, 2023, at approximately 5:07 PM, CSPD was notified of a bicyclist who had been hit by a vehicle in the 1600 block of East Las Vegas Street. Callers reported the suspect vehicle had fled but provided suspect vehicle information. The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital where she later succumbed to life-threatening injuries she received as a result of the crash.
Officers were able to locate and contact the suspect driver of the involved vehicle. The suspect is Mr. William Dixson, a 43-year-old resident of Colorado Springs. Mr. Dixson was arrested and charged with Accidents Involving Death or Personal Injuries, Careless Driving Resulting in Death, and Driving Under the Influence.
On October 14, 2023, the El Paso County Coroner’s Officer completed an autopsy on the deceased bicyclist and identified her as 38-year-old Jessica Gilmore.
This is the 39th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2023. At this time last year, there were 43 traffic fatalities. There have been 52 traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs in the last 365 days.
