On May 23, 2024, at approximately 6:04 a.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to a call for service regarding a shooting on South Nevada Avenue near the southbound off-ramp from I-25. Upon arrival, officers found a male with at least one gunshot wound. The male was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
On May 24, 2024, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy of the deceased male and identified him as 45-year-old Darryl Edward Scurry Jr. While the coroner’s office will determine the cause and manner of death, this is being investigated as a homicide.
On October 10, 2024, an arrest warrant was issued for 22-year-old Vonrobert Kennedy for the murder of Mr. Scurry. Mr. Kennedy was charged while he was being held in the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center on unrelated charges.
This was the 20th homicide in Colorado Springs. At that time last year, there were 11 homicides.

Victim Identified in South Nevada Homicide
