“It’s my pleasure to recognize Chuck Murphy for his decades of outstanding service to our community,” said Mayor John Suthers. “His passion for our past is matched only by his contributions that are shaping our city’s promising future.”
Murphy is a nature photographer and enjoys traveling with his wife Mary Lou. They will celebrate their 62nd wedding anniversary in December. They love spending time with their five children, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mayor Suthers' Comments
It’s now time for what I believe to be a highlight of this annual event … the presentation of the Spirit of the Springs Lifetime Achievement Award.
I would need a lot more time than we have to list all the achievements of this year’s recipient. Chuck Murphy and his company, Murphy Constructors, have renovated and restored some of the most historic buildings in our city, including the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum … he’s had a hand in restoring the places that keep our history alive.
Chuck loves local history and his passion for our past is matched only by his contributions that are helping to shape our promising future. He has served on the Colorado Economic Development Commission and has contributed to the City for Champions project on many levels. He’s provided his time and insight to the city’s planning department, the Pikes Peak Highway Advisory Board, the Downtown Partnership, and The Historic Preservation Alliance. He serves on countless charitable boards, some of them focused on preserving the gems of our city, while others support the arts in the Pikes Peak Region and others care for our city’s most needy and vulnerable. His compassion for others is evidenced by so many of the organizations he chooses to champion.
It’s my pleasure to wish Chuck a Happy Birthday as he turned 83 yesterday! But I don’t think he has plans to slow down.
part of the reason he deserves our recognition.
