Mayor Suthers' Comments

Spirit of the Springs awards program was created to celebrate the positive achievements in our great community – Lifetime Achievement Category.

It is now my pleasure to honor one of most dedicated public servants in Colorado Springs: George Fellows

We are honored to recognize his contributions to our city as a leader, a volunteer, and a man who obviously cares deeply about Colorado Springs

He served as the City Manager for a record 19 years(1966-85)
In many of his speeches from the 1960s, 70s and 80s, he addressed issues like the city’s rapid growth, the need for infill and revitalization and finding ways to make the budget stretch as far as possible

He has earned numerous awards over the years:

  • Outstanding Administrator
  • Good Citizenship Award
  • The Carolyn Keane Memorial Award, for his advocacy for the disabled community

He has volunteered with many organizations over the years, giving back to our community for decades
We are glad that George and his family are here with us today.

I would now like to invite you to watch a video that takes a closer look at his work and his tremendous, lasting impact on our great city
