Evans Avenue Bridge Replacement

Content

Location: Evans Avenue bridge near the entrance to North Cheyenne Cañon

Detour Map

Project Description:  Replace the existing Evans Avenue bridge over Cheyenne Creek and make pedestrian improvements.

Originally built in 1925, the existing bridge is long overdue for replacement.  It is structurally deficient and functionally obsolete.  After years of environmental and historical approvals the project is ready to move into the construction phase. The new bridge will be built to current standards and will be able to handle all legal traffic loads, and it will be widened slightly to accommodate a sidewalk for safe pedestrian travel.  Aesthetic, historic elements of the existing bridge will be incorporated into the new bridge by using the same rocks on the bridge rail.  Because the bridge was designated as a contributing factor to the historic North Cheyenne Cañon Park designation, a historic plaque will be installed at the project site.

Construction Time Frame: April - November 2016

Funding Source: Federal Grant, City of Colorado Springs General Fund, PPRTA Maintenance.

Estimated construction cost: $1,125,641.84.
